ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital) Petroleum prices in Pakistan have increased sharply over the past 10 days, adding to financial pressure on consumers as petrol became nearly Rs25 per litre more expensive, according to official documents.
The documents show that the price of petrol rose by Rs24.96 per litre between September 1 and September 10, while the price of high-speed diesel increased by Rs22.26 per litre during the same period.
Petrol was priced at Rs342.79 per litre on September 1. By September 10, the price had climbed to Rs367.75 per litre.
The increase was recorded through a series of adjustments during the period. Petrol became Rs1.08 per litre more expensive on September 2, followed by increases of Rs2.29 and Rs2.84 on September 3 and 4, respectively.
The price was reduced by Rs3.13 per litre for the period from September 5 to 7, providing consumers with only temporary relief. The downward movement was short-lived, however, as prices increased sharply again.
On September 8, petrol became Rs12.90 per litre more expensive, followed by another increase of Rs5.58 on September 9. A further increase of Rs3.40 per litre was implemented on September 10, pushing the price to Rs367.75.
Diesel Prices Continue Upward Trend
Unlike petrol, diesel prices continued to rise throughout the 10-day period, according to the documents.
The price of diesel stood at Rs370.41 per litre on September 1 and reached Rs392.67 per litre by September 10, representing an overall increase of Rs22.26 per litre.
Diesel prices rose by 51 paisa on September 2, followed by increases of Rs1.11 and Rs2.28 on September 3 and 4.
For September 5 to 7, diesel became Rs3.72 per litre more expensive. The upward trend continued with an additional Rs3.72 increase on September 8 and Rs4.18 on September 9.
The final increase during the period came on September 10, when diesel rose by another Rs6.72 per litre to reach Rs392.67.
The latest fuel price increases are expected to add to transportation and operating costs, with potential effects on freight charges, public transport and prices of goods across the country.
The rapid rise in petroleum prices has also intensified concerns over the impact of fuel costs on household budgets and the broader cost of living.
