ANKARA (The COW News Digital) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan signaled Ankara’s readiness to evaluate defense assistance to Saudi Arabia under a tripartite security framework with Pakistan, emphasizing that dragging Riyadh into the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict remains unacceptable.
Speaking during an interview with NTV television, Fidan stated that Saudi Arabia does not seek involvement in the broader regional war but faces growing military defense needs due to persistent missile and drone strikes launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement. He affirmed that Turkey will assess these defense requirements alongside Pakistan under the existing Ankara-Riyadh-Islamabad defense cooperation arrangement.
Highlighting diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating Middle Eastern hostilities, Fidan revealed that Turkey has submitted specific proposals to key regional and international stakeholders to help end the conflict. While declining to elaborate on the precise contents of the framework, he reaffirmed Ankara’s active diplomatic engagement across all political channels.
The Foreign Minister’s remarks come amidst heightened regional volatility driven by confrontation between the United States and Iran, which continues to jeopardize security across Gulf states and critical commercial shipping lanes.
