New York (The COW News Digital) Eight Arab and Muslim foreign ministers held a high-level coordination meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, as diplomatic consultations intensified over major regional and international issues.
The meeting brought together the foreign ministers of Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates. The gathering was part of a series of diplomatic engagements taking place during the UNGA high-level week, with participating countries exchanging views on matters of common regional and international interest.
Pakistan was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who is participating in a range of high-level meetings during his visit to New York. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has said Dar is scheduled to attend several OIC and Arab-Islamic ministerial meetings, alongside bilateral engagements with foreign counterparts.
The eight-country grouping has maintained coordination on several issues in recent months, particularly concerning the situation in Gaza, Palestinian rights and developments in the wider Middle East. Earlier this month, the foreign ministers of the same eight countries issued a joint statement rejecting proposals aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians from Gaza and reaffirming support for a two-state solution.
The latest meeting comes as the UN General Assembly opens amid significant international attention on conflicts and security challenges in the Middle East and beyond. The 81st session is addressing a broad range of issues, including regional conflicts, the situation in Palestine, the war involving Iran, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, climate change and emerging global challenges.
For Pakistan, the New York engagements provide an opportunity to discuss regional security, diplomatic coordination and international efforts aimed at reducing tensions. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is also attending the UNGA and is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 25. According to Pakistan’s official broadcaster, his address will focus on the changing regional and global security environment, dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution.
The participation of Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and the UAE reflects continued coordination among key Arab and Muslim countries at a time when developments in the Middle East remain a major focus of international diplomacy.
The New York meeting is therefore part of broader diplomatic efforts among the eight countries to exchange assessments, coordinate positions and discuss matters affecting regional stability and the wider international agenda.
