ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital ) Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership of supporting terrorist networks and alleged that the party has crossed political limits over its approach to terrorism and security issues.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Tarar said political differences should have certain boundaries, but alleged that the PTI had gone beyond them. He also criticised the performance of the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, particularly its handling of security and counterterrorism affairs.
Tarar reiterated his allegation that the PTI leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was acting as a “B-team” of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He questioned why, according to him, militant groups had not publicly condemned or targeted PTI in the same way as other political parties.
The minister further alleged that PTI was involved in financially supporting terrorists. These are allegations made by the federal minister during the press conference; the reports cited do not independently establish the accusation.
Tarar also raised concerns over the continued use of non-custom-paid vehicles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He alleged that the provincial government had failed to bring such vehicles into the legal registration system and claimed that some of them were being used in terrorist activities.
He questioned the provincial government’s performance in healthcare and governance, arguing that KP had been under PTI rule for more than 12 years but residents still travelled to other provinces to access basic services.
The information minister also claimed that the federal Interior Ministry had offered modern vehicles to the KP Police, but that the provincial government had declined the offer. He accused the PTI-led administration of failing to provide adequate resources and leadership to police personnel fighting terrorism.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, who addressed the press conference alongside Tarar, also criticised the KP government’s security policies. He alleged that law-enforcement agencies in the province had not received sufficient resources, equipment or political leadership to effectively counter terrorist threats.
Chaudhry also referred to recent violence in Dera Ismail Khan and alleged that militants operating in Pakistan were linked to Afghanistan. He said the federal government had repeatedly raised security concerns with Afghan authorities.
Tarar contrasted the security approach of the KP government with that of Balochistan, praising Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti for what he described as efforts to use available resources against terrorism.
He also questioned how funds allocated for counterterrorism through the National Finance Commission were being spent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tarar alleged that provincial resources were being diverted toward political activities instead of strengthening law-enforcement institutions.
The federal minister said the government remained committed to implementing the National Action Plan and combating terrorism across the country. He maintained that political differences should not prevent cooperation on national security.
The allegations made at the press conference come amid renewed political tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led KP administration over responsibility for counterterrorism, police resources and security policy in the province.
