Islamabad(The COW News Digital): Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with India following the reported killing of two Pakistani civilians in firing by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in the Bedian sector.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two Pakistani citizens were shot and killed by Indian BSF personnel. Following the incident, India’s Charge d’Affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office in Islamabad, where Pakistan formally conveyed its strong protest over the deaths.
The Foreign Office described the firing on what it characterized as unarmed civilians as unjustified and rejected an Indian attempt to describe the deceased individuals as infiltrators.
Pakistan said the incident represented a serious violation of fundamental human rights, particularly the right to life. Islamabad called for an immediate, transparent and credible investigation into the circumstances surrounding the firing.
In a formal communication handed to the Indian diplomat, Pakistan demanded that the Indian authorities investigate the incident and take legal and departmental action against any personnel found responsible.
Pakistan also asked India to share the findings of its investigation and provide information regarding the action taken against those responsible.
The Foreign Office urged India to ensure respect for fundamental human rights and international law while dealing with matters along the border. Islamabad also called on New Delhi to exercise maximum restraint in order to prevent further escalation or similar incidents.
Pakistan further demanded effective measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
The latest development comes amid continued sensitivity surrounding security and civilian movement along the Pakistan-India border. Incidents involving border forces can quickly raise tensions between the two neighboring countries, making official investigations and communication between the two sides particularly important.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office maintained that the circumstances of the incident warranted a formal response and emphasized the need for accountability. The government has called for the identities and circumstances surrounding the deaths to be examined through a credible investigative process.
The demand for an investigation also reflects Pakistan’s position that any use of force against civilians must be examined under applicable domestic and international legal standards. Islamabad has asked India to provide details of the investigation and subsequent proceedings.
The Indian side’s position regarding the incident, including its characterization of the deceased as infiltrators, has been disputed by Pakistan. The Pakistani Foreign Office has rejected that characterization and maintained that the two men were civilians.
The incident is now expected to remain a subject of diplomatic discussion as Pakistan seeks clarification from Indian authorities and presses for an investigation into the circumstances that led to the deaths.
Pakistan has reiterated that restraint, respect for international law and effective preventive measures are necessary to avoid similar incidents and maintain stability along the border.
