ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital) In a monumental milestone for the nation’s space exploration and scientific trajectory, Pakistan’s first astronaut is set to launch into space from a Chinese launch center on November 25, 2026. The historic endeavor marks the country’s debut in human spaceflight and highlights a deepening bilateral space partnership between Islamabad and Beijing.
The historic selection process involved rigorous medical, psychological, and high-altitude technical evaluations conducted in China. Two highly decorated Pakistani pilots, Muhammad Zeeshan Ali and Khurram Dawood, successfully cleared the intensive preliminary screening and underwent specialized spaceflight training modules. Final mission evaluations will designate one of the two pilots to represent Pakistan aboard Tiangong, China’s space station.
Far beyond a symbolic presence in orbit, the selected Pakistani astronaut will execute a series of high-impact scientific experiments while aboard the space laboratory. The research agenda focuses primarily on biotechnology, microgravity life sciences, and agricultural biology aimed at developing robust solutions for climate change adaptation and global food security challenges back on Earth.
The foundation for this space milestone was established in February 2025, when Pakistan and China inked a strategic bilateral space cooperation framework covering human spaceflight training, joint research initiatives, and astronaut operations. This collaboration has systematically transformed Pakistan’s ambitions of entering human space exploration into an operational reality.
Looking ahead, the human spaceflight mission serves as a stepping stone for broader lunar exploration ambitions. Pakistan has outlined a strategic space roadmap aiming to reach the Moon by 2035. Under this long-term framework, Pakistani engineers and scientists are currently co-developing a domestic lunar rover designed to land on the Moon via China’s Chang’e-8 mission in upcoming space endeavors.
To foster youth engagement and scientific curiosity across the nation, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal previously announced the establishment of Pakistan’s first specialized space museum at Narowal University. Officials emphasize that the upcoming November 25 mission represents far more than an orbital journey—it stands as a transformative step toward national scientific innovation, technical self-reliance, and futuristic technological frontiers.
