Islamabad (The COW News Digital) Pakistan has strongly criticised the Afghan Taliban government for refusing to acknowledge the key reasons behind deteriorating relations between the two neighbouring countries, reiterating that Kabul must fulfil its responsibility to prevent terrorist activities originating from Afghan territory.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a statement in response to recent remarks by the Afghan Taliban spokesperson, describing the comments as highly misleading and reflective of what it called the Taliban regime’s distorted thinking.
According to the ministry, the Afghan Taliban leadership remains unwilling to recognise the fundamental causes behind tensions with Pakistan and continues to blame Islamabad’s policies for the worsening bilateral relationship.
The ministry maintained that the Taliban government was overlooking the most critical issue responsible for the deterioration in relations: its continued failure to prevent terrorist groups from using Afghan territory to carry out attacks against Pakistan.
It emphasised that terrorism originating from Afghanistan remains the biggest obstacle to improving relations between the two countries. Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about militant activities and cross-border security threats, urging the Afghan authorities to take effective measures against groups operating from their soil.
The statement stressed that the Taliban government must fulfil its obligations by preventing the use of Afghan territory for terrorist activities targeting Pakistan.
Pakistan also reiterated its right to take all necessary measures to eliminate threats to its national security, making it clear that the protection of its citizens and territorial security remain top priorities.
The Ministry of Information further stated that accusations against Pakistan and what it described as hollow assurances from the Afghan Taliban would not help resolve the ongoing crisis between the two countries.
It reaffirmed Islamabad’s position that terrorism remains a red line and that Pakistan would not compromise on the safety and security of its people.
The ministry warned that Pakistan’s determination to protect its citizens should never be interpreted as a sign of weakness. It maintained that national security concerns would continue to guide the country’s response to threats emerging from across the border.
Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have faced growing tensions over security concerns, particularly allegations that militant groups are operating from Afghan territory and targeting Pakistani security forces and civilians.
Islamabad has consistently called on Kabul to take verifiable action against such groups, while the Afghan Taliban have rejected accusations that their territory is being used to threaten neighbouring countries.
The latest statement reflects Pakistan’s continued frustration over the lack of progress on security-related concerns and indicates that counterterrorism cooperation remains central to any improvement in bilateral relations.
Pakistan’s position remains clear: meaningful progress in relations with Afghanistan requires concrete action against terrorism rather than political accusations or assurances.
