ISLAMABAD (The COW News Digital) Barrister Salman Safdar has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating eyesight of former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, following a meeting with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and his wife at Adiala Jail.
In an affidavit submitted to the Islamabad High Court in connection with the £190 million case, Safdar described Bushra Bibi’s eye condition as alarming and called for immediate medical attention.
According to the affidavit, jail authorities informed Safdar on October 31 that his meeting with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had been scheduled for November 2 at 3:30 pm. The meeting commenced at 4 pm and lasted approximately 40 minutes.
Safdar stated that Bushra Bibi was wearing unusually dark sunglasses during the meeting. Upon his and Imran Khan’s request, she removed the glasses and appeared visibly distressed.
He said Bushra Bibi told him that she could not tolerate either sunlight or artificial lighting. She also reportedly stated that she was unable to open her eyes without wearing sunglasses.
Safdar expressed concern that her eyesight had been severely affected, describing the condition of her eyes as extremely fragile.
According to the affidavit, Imran Khan also appeared visibly concerned about his wife’s worsening vision.
Bushra Bibi reportedly informed Safdar that doctors who had examined her had diagnosed her condition as mature cataracts. She further stated that medical professionals had advised her to undergo another eye surgery around November 15.
The affidavit also highlighted Bushra Bibi’s dissatisfaction with the cleanliness standards inside the prison and the medical treatment being provided to her.
She reportedly requested that her medical examination and treatment be conducted by her personal doctors. Safdar assured her that he would raise the matter with the relevant authorities and bring it to the attention of the court.
Meanwhile, Bushra Bibi has filed a separate miscellaneous application seeking the submission of her complete medical records before the Islamabad High Court.
The application requests an immediate examination by an ophthalmologist and medical consultation with both a specialist and the jail medical officer.
According to the application, her eyesight is deteriorating rapidly, making urgent medical intervention necessary.
The petition was filed through Barrister Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry.
The latest development has renewed concerns regarding the medical care provided to incarcerated political leaders. The court is being urged to ensure that Bushra Bibi receives appropriate medical examination and treatment in accordance with her reported condition.
The allegations and medical concerns detailed in the affidavit and court application have not been independently verified.
