Islamabad — Senior Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan has resigned from his position as the party’s Secretary General, saying he intends to devote full attention to his responsibilities in the National Assembly as the Leader of the Opposition. His resignation was formally accepted by PTI founder Imran Khan, prompting a leadership change as the party continues to reorganise its structure amid ongoing political challenges.

In a message to party members, Ayub said holding the dual roles of Secretary General and parliamentary leader had become increasingly demanding, making it difficult to serve both roles effectively. He said stepping aside from party administration will allow him to better champion legislative priorities and articulate the opposition’s stance on key national issues.

Ayub also expressed gratitude to the “PTI family” of parliamentarians and party workers for their support and cooperation during his tenure as Secretary General, acknowledging their efforts in advancing the party’s political agenda despite a difficult and evolving political landscape.

PTI leadership has named Salman Akram Raja as the new Secretary General, with party officials expressing confidence in his ability to manage internal organisation. Political analysts say Ayub’s move reflects PTI’s strategy to strengthen its parliamentary focus amid heightened legislative activity and political contests ahead.
