Beijing(The COW News Digital)China has officially dismissed claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump that it has been secretly conducting nuclear tests, reiterating its commitment to global non-proliferation norms and the suspension of nuclear testing.

Trump, in a recent interview with a U.S. news network, alleged that countries including China, Russia, North Korea, and Pakistan were conducting undisclosed underground nuclear experiments. “It’s a big world. You don’t know where they are testing. They do it underground where no one knows what’s happening, you can even feel the earth shaking,” Trump said.

Responding to the allegations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized on Monday that China has not violated the informal international moratorium on nuclear testing. She stressed that China remains fully committed to its pledge to suspend nuclear tests and maintains a defensive nuclear strategy.

“As a responsible nuclear power, China is committed to peaceful development,” Mao said. “We adhere to a no-first-use policy regarding nuclear weapons and continue to uphold the suspension of nuclear tests.”

The spokesperson also urged the United States to respect the global moratorium on nuclear testing and work toward arms reduction and non-proliferation, highlighting the importance of preserving international strategic balance and stability. Mao expressed hope that Washington would take practical steps to reinforce the global non-proliferation regime, strengthen dialogue, and maintain regional and global security.

Trump’s allegations come amid rising tensions over nuclear policies, following his recent directive to the U.S. military to conduct immediate nuclear weapons testing. On social media, Trump announced that the Department of Defense had been ordered to start nuclear tests without delay, a move seen by analysts as escalating global nuclear concerns.

China’s firm rejection signals its intent to differentiate itself as a responsible nuclear state that prioritizes diplomatic engagement and compliance with international norms. Beijing’s response underscores its continued adherence to multilateral agreements and efforts to reduce nuclear risks.

Experts note that such allegations and actions by the U.S. could strain international nuclear diplomacy and complicate ongoing non-proliferation efforts. However, China’s statement emphasizes transparency, strategic restraint, and its commitment to a peaceful rise as central to its nuclear policy.
