Islamabad (The COW News Digital) The Pakistani government has finalized a panel of three senior officials shortlisted for the position of Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The announcement comes as Islamabad prepares to fill the key post representing Pakistan in the Manila-based multilateral development institution.

According to sources, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has approved the shortlist, which includes two female officers from the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS). The top candidate is Grade-22 officer Sarah Saeed, who is currently serving as Special Secretary in the Establishment Division. She is widely regarded as a strong contender for the prestigious role due to her extensive administrative experience and track record in public service.

The other shortlisted candidates include Hamid Yaqub Sheikh, a former Finance Secretary who is presently serving as Secretary of Health, and Nasheeta Mohsin, also a senior PAS officer. The inclusion of these officers reflects the government’s aim to present a balanced panel with both experience and diversity.

Sources noted that if Hamid Yaqub is not posted to Manila as Pakistan’s representative at the ADB, he may be considered for the position of Secretary Petroleum, indicating the government’s flexibility in high-level appointments.

The Executive Director role at ADB is significant for Pakistan, as it involves representing the country’s interests in decision-making on development financing, strategic planning, and regional projects. The selected officer will liaise with other member countries, advocate for Pakistan’s developmental priorities, and oversee the allocation of funds across various projects in South Asia.

Government officials emphasize that the final selection process will be conducted carefully to ensure that the candidate has the administrative expertise, diplomatic skills, and financial acumen required to succeed in the role. Analysts suggest that the appointment will strengthen Pakistan’s voice in regional development matters and reinforce its engagement with international financial institutions.

The three shortlisted candidates, especially Sarah Saeed, have extensive experience managing large-scale administrative portfolios and are seen as capable of representing Pakistan effectively at ADB meetings and negotiations.

The government is expected to make the final announcement shortly, after completing internal reviews and securing necessary approvals from relevant authorities.
