France(The COW News Digital)In a historic move, France has officially recognized Palestine as an independent state, joining the ranks of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal. French President Emmanuel Macron made the announcement during a United Nations conference, declaring that “the time has come to establish peace in Palestine.”

President Macron emphasized that the responsibility to secure lasting and just peace in the Middle East rests on the shoulders of the entire international community. “The promise of a Palestinian state has remained unfulfilled for decades,” Macron said, urging world leaders to act decisively. “We are just moments away from a chance for peace, and if we fail to act now, this opportunity could be lost forever.”

The French leader called for an immediate end to the war in Gaza, stressing that all parties must take practical steps to ensure justice and stability for the people of the region. He insisted that the rule of law must prevail over the use of force.

Macron also named other countries that have already recognized Palestine, including Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Morocco, San Marino, along with the UK, Canada, and Australia. This growing list reflects a shift in international opinion in favor of Palestinian statehood.

In his address, Macron also condemned the ongoing conflict in Gaza, calling it “unjustifiable.” He demanded the immediate release of the remaining 48 hostages held by Hamas, framing it as a crucial step toward de-escalation and humanitarian relief.

Meanwhile, Hamas has reportedly sent an important letter to former U.S. President Donald Trump, offering a potential breakthrough. The letter proposes a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of half of the Israeli hostages still in captivity. This proposal has raised cautious optimism among mediators that a path to a long-term peace agreement may finally be opening.

France’s recognition of Palestine adds significant diplomatic weight to the momentum building for a two-state solution. Analysts believe this move could pressure other European and Western nations to follow suit, further isolating Israel diplomatically unless it engages seriously in negotiations.

With mounting international calls for an end to hostilities and renewed efforts toward peace, the coming weeks are expected to be critical for the future of the region. The global community will now watch closely to see whether this growing wave of recognition can translate into concrete steps toward a final resolution of the decades-old conflict.
