Atif Zaman Gets Two Death Sentences in Mureed Abbas Case

World ( The cow news digital ) An Additional District and Sessions Court has announced its verdict in the murder case of journalist and anchorperson Mureed Abbas and another victim, handing down two death sentences to accused Atif Zaman after a seven-year legal process.

The court found Atif Zaman guilty of killing two individuals and awarded him capital punishment on both counts. The court also issued permanent arrest warrants for his absconding co-accused Adil Zaman, who remains at large.

According to the prosecution, Mureed Abbas and Khizr Hayat were killed on July 9, 2019, in an incident registered at the Darakhshan Police Station in Karachi. The case was filed against Atif Zaman and his brother Adil Zaman following the killings.

The prosecution stated that the victims were allegedly targeted over a business dispute involving financial dealings. During the trial, evidence and witness statements were presented before the court, leading to the conviction of Atif Zaman.

Officials said that Adil Zaman had escaped after the Supreme Court rejected his bail petition. The trial court had already declared him a proclaimed offender due to his continued absence from the proceedings.

The verdict brings a significant development in a case that had drawn widespread attention because of the involvement of a television journalist and the circumstances surrounding the killings.
