CAIRO (The COW News Digital)Egypt has officially initiated serious deliberations regarding its potential accession to the high-profile Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, forged recently between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye.
In a recent media statement, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty highlighted that Cairo maintains deep, multifaceted, and strategic bilateral ties with all three member states, extending far beyond conventional political cooperation. Addressing queries about Egypt potentially joining the defense framework, the Foreign Minister confirmed that Cairo has been kept in the loop since the inception of the pact. He noted that relevant state institutions are currently conducting a comprehensive and thorough evaluation of the accord to determine a definitive course of action.
“Egypt’s national constitution and stringent legal frameworks require meticulous review of all international defense agreements and their corresponding obligations before making any formal commitments,” Minister Abdelatty emphasized.
The landmark trilateral defense agreement, recently signed in the holy city of Mecca by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye, introduces a collective security doctrine stipulating that any armed aggression against one member state will be officially treated as an attack on all three.
Geopolitical analysts view Egypt’s potential incorporation into this security matrix as a transformative development for regional stability in the Middle East.
