Iran War Damage Could Cost US Billions in Reconstruction

Washington (The COW News Digital) The extensive damage inflicted on American military installations across the Middle East during the ongoing war between Iran and the United States could impose an additional financial burden of billions of dollars on Washington.

According to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, rebuilding damaged US military facilities could cost at least $4 billion. However, estimates by the Pentagon suggest that the overall damage to American bases could range between $5 billion and $15 billion.

The report, based on satellite imagery, Iranian statements and information obtained from US officials, identified damage to 274 buildings and other structures across 24 American military locations in the Middle East during the first six months of the conflict.

The affected infrastructure includes military accommodation facilities, aircraft hangars, warehouses, communication centres, fuel installations and air defence systems.

The reported damage highlights the scale of the impact on American military infrastructure in the region, where several installations have come under attack during the conflict.

According to the report, Iranian strikes initially targeted early-warning radar systems and air defence installations. Subsequent attacks reportedly focused on aircraft, hangars and accommodation facilities used by American military personnel.

These installations play an important role in supporting US military operations, maintaining regional surveillance and protecting military assets against aerial threats.

An analysis by the Associated Press also highlighted the extent of the damage caused by Iranian attacks and those carried out by groups supported by Tehran.

According to the AP analysis, more than 115 drone and missile attacks had damaged or destroyed 26 US military bases and other installations by August.

The findings indicate that American military facilities across the region faced repeated attacks, affecting infrastructure and potentially increasing the cost of maintaining military operations.

The financial consequences could extend beyond the immediate repair of damaged buildings and equipment. Replacing specialised radar systems, restoring communication networks and rebuilding military facilities could require substantial investment.

The Pentagon’s estimated damage figure of between $5 billion and $15 billion also suggests that the eventual reconstruction bill could be considerably higher than the initial estimates.

The full financial impact will depend on the extent of the destruction, the replacement of damaged military equipment and the time required to restore affected installations.

As the conflict continues, the damage to US military infrastructure has emerged as another significant cost of the war, adding pressure on Washington to assess its military losses and plan the reconstruction of affected facilities.
