World ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been handed a suspension after being found in violation of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Doping Code, with the governing body confirming that his cricket records during a specific period have also been declared invalid.

According to the ICC, a doping sample collected from the 32-year-old cricketer tested positive for a prohibited substance known as carboxy-tetrahydrocannabinol (Carboxy-THC). The sample was taken on February 7, 2026, following Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The ICC stated that Mohammad Nawaz accepted the violation and acknowledged the presence of the banned substance in his sample. However, the player maintained that the substance was not used with the intention of enhancing his performance during competition.

After reviewing his explanation and the circumstances surrounding the case, the ICC imposed a three-month period of ineligibility on the Pakistani cricketer. The suspension was applied from May 1, 2026, the date on which Nawaz had voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension.

The cricket body further explained that the suspension period could be reduced if Nawaz successfully completes a prescribed treatment and rehabilitation programme related to substance use. If he completes the required programme, his period of ineligibility will be reduced to one month.

Since the all-rounder has already served more than two months of his suspension period, successful completion of the programme would mean that he would not face any further restrictions on his return to cricket.

The ICC also confirmed that all of Mohammad Nawaz’s cricketing records and results between February 7 and May 1, 2026, have been disqualified as part of the disciplinary action.

Anti-doping regulations in international cricket are designed to protect the integrity of the sport and ensure that players compete under fair conditions. The ICC regularly conducts testing programmes across international tournaments and bilateral series to detect the use of prohibited substances.

Mohammad Nawaz has been a key member of Pakistan’s limited-overs setup and has represented the national team in multiple international competitions. His suspension comes as a setback for the player, but the possibility of a reduced penalty provides a pathway for an earlier return if all required conditions are fulfilled.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet announced any further details regarding the player’s rehabilitation process or future availability for selection.
