Pakistan Moves to Modernize Power Sector Data Governance

National ( The cow news digital ) The government has taken an important step toward improving data governance in Pakistan’s power sector by focusing on transparent, efficient, and modern systems for managing critical information.

Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari has directed that regular meetings of the Data Governance Council should be held to ensure timely decision-making and effective implementation of policies. The move is aimed at strengthening the use of reliable data for planning, monitoring, and improving performance across the electricity sector.

During a briefing on the proposed institutional structure of the Data Governance Council, the minister instructed officials to establish an Executive Working Committee. The committee will oversee the implementation of council decisions, monitor progress, and ensure that recommendations are carried out effectively.

Awais Leghari was also briefed on the framework and operational structure of the council. He directed that the appointment process for the Executive Director of the Data Governance Council should be completed at the earliest to ensure the body becomes fully functional.

The energy minister emphasized that reliable and integrated data is essential for effective decision-making in the power sector. He said that the establishment of the Data Governance Council would provide a foundation for modern, transparent, and accountable governance.

According to the minister, the council will help introduce common data standards and improve the overall management of information within the electricity sector. Better coordination and availability of accurate data will support institutions in making informed decisions and addressing challenges more efficiently.

Leghari stated that effective use of data would contribute to improved performance in the power sector and promote the wise utilization of available resources. He described data-driven reforms as an important step toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and institutional efficiency.
