Islamabad(The COW News Digital) Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has issued his first public reaction following the verdict in the Toshakhana-II case, in which he and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years each.

Speaking near Adiala Jail, Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, said that despite the heavy sentence, Khan remained calm and composed, even smiling, and was not surprised by the outcome. He confirmed that the legal team has been instructed to file an appeal in the High Court on behalf of Khan and his wife.

Barrister Safdar highlighted procedural concerns regarding the verdict. He explained that the legal team was notified late in the evening, around 8 PM, that proceedings would resume at 9 AM the following morning. “We were not expecting a verdict at this stage,” he said.

The lawyer emphasized that on October 16, the case had been adjourned, with arguments scheduled to continue on the latest date. “The judge presented a 59-page written verdict in our absence and delivered it without completing all required legal procedures,” Safdar added. He alleged that the decision was announced without following proper protocol, asserting that “legal requirements were not fully observed.”

Despite the verdict, Imran Khan reportedly maintained a positive demeanor. “He was smiling and calm throughout,” Safdar said. “He was not surprised by the outcome and remains confident that relief will be granted by the High Court, as has been the case in previous decisions from Adiala Jail.”

The verdict marks a significant moment in Pakistan’s political landscape, given Khan’s prominent role as the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and a former Prime Minister. Legal experts have noted that the case is likely to see extensive appeals and scrutiny in higher courts, potentially shaping the political narrative in the months ahead.

As the PTI leadership and supporters react to the sentence, attention now shifts to the High Court proceedings, which are expected to determine the next legal course of action. Meanwhile, Khan’s composed reaction reflects his intent to approach the situation through legal channels rather than public confrontation.

The Toshakhana-II verdict underscores the ongoing legal and political challenges facing former Prime Minister Imran Khan, while raising questions about judicial procedure and transparency in high-profile cases.
