Peshawar(The COW News Digital)The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced that it will stage a sit-in outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday if Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is again denied a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The announcement comes amid rising tensions between the PTI-led provincial government and federal authorities over restrictions on political meetings inside the prison.
According to Express News, KP’s Special Assistant for Information Shafi Jan said that the provincial leadership had exhausted all legal avenues to secure permission for the meeting. He warned that if authorities refused access on Tuesday, the KP cabinet, lawmakers, and senior PTI leadership would hold a peaceful but firm protest in front of Adiala Jail.

Shafi Jan said all members of the National and Provincial Assemblies from KP will first appear before the high court on Tuesday morning to press for a judicial order, after which they will accompany Imran Khan’s family to the jail. He stated that Imran Khan’s sisters have not been allowed to see him since November 4, creating serious concern about the former prime minister’s health and well-being.
He criticised the federal government, claiming it fears Imran Khan’s statements and political influence. “The PML-N forgets its own past,” he said, recalling that senior party leaders and cabinet members frequently met Nawaz Sharif during his stay in London and even held consultations on state matters. He alleged that the government is deliberately trying to restrict Imran Khan’s communication because he remains Pakistan’s most popular political leader.
Shafi Jan further said the PTI’s mandate in KP is directly tied to Imran Khan’s incarceration. “People voted for PTI on the promise of Imran Khan’s release,” he asserted, adding that citizens constantly ask when the former premier will be freed.
The KP information aide also criticised the federal government for withholding financial dues owed to the province. He said Rs 3 trillion are pending under NFC allocations, net hydel profit, and oil and gas revenue shares. He added that KP will present a strong case in the NFC meeting scheduled for December 4, warning that the province’s policing and merged districts cannot function without overdue federal funds.
The dispute over jail meetings has further strained relations between the PTI-led KP government and Islamabad, with protests expected if Tuesday’s meeting request is denied.
