National ( The cow news digital ) A coordinated terrorist attack on the Mazanga police post in Bannu was successfully thwarted due to the swift and effective response of local security forces, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to police sources, a large group of armed militants launched an assault on the Mazanga checkpoint at approximately 1:30 AM. The attackers attempted to breach the security perimeter under the cover of darkness, triggering an immediate retaliatory response from deployed personnel.

A fierce exchange of fire continued until dawn, during which security forces maintained control of the area and gradually forced the assailants to retreat. Authorities confirmed that the attackers suffered losses and were compelled to flee the scene after facing strong resistance.

Following the incident, reinforcements from the Bannu Police Lines, led by District Police Officer (DPO) Yasir Afridi, reached the location to secure the area and support ongoing operations. Additional units from other security agencies also joined the effort to establish full control.

A joint search operation was launched immediately after the encounter. During the sweep, evidence of the attackers’ presence was recovered, including blood traces, abandoned weapons, bandoliers, ladders, and footwear. Officials believe the material indicates that the militants were prepared for a prolonged engagement or infiltration attempt.

During the exchange of fire, one police officer, Constable Fareedullah, sustained minor injuries while performing his duties. He was promptly shifted to a medical facility where he received first aid. His condition was reported to be stable.

Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police praised the timely response and professionalism of the personnel involved, describing them as a valuable asset in the fight against terrorism. He reiterated that such cowardly attacks are aimed at destabilizing peace but assured that they will be met with decisive action.

DPO Yasir Afridi stated that the Bannu police remain fully committed to eliminating terrorism from the region. He emphasized that every hostile act will be responded to with full force and that law enforcement agencies are determined to maintain peace and stability.

Security operations in the surrounding areas remain ongoing as authorities continue efforts to track down the fleeing attackers and dismantle any associated networks.

The incident once again highlights the persistent security challenges in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where law enforcement agencies continue to face sporadic militant activity despite sustained counter-terror operations.
