Medical experts say the surge in gastroenteritis cases is largely linked to the improper handling and storage of sacrificial meat. During Eid, large quantities of meat are distributed and stored in homes, often under challenging weather conditions. High temperatures, combined with power outages and inadequate refrigeration, can accelerate bacterial growth, making meat unsafe for consumption.

Doctors at major public hospitals have observed a rise in emergency admissions involving symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, stomach cramps, and fever. Many patients reported consuming meat that had been left unrefrigerated for extended periods or stored improperly after slaughter.

Health specialists warn that excessive consumption of meat over a short period can also place significant stress on the digestive system. Rich, fatty, and heavily spiced meals, commonly prepared during Eid festivities, may contribute to indigestion and other gastrointestinal complications, particularly among middle-aged adults.

Experts recommend that sacrificial meat be cleaned, divided into portions, and refrigerated or frozen as soon as possible after processing. They also advise households to avoid repeatedly thawing and refreezing meat, as this increases the risk of bacterial contamination.

To maintain digestive health during and after Eid, nutritionists encourage a balanced diet that includes vegetables, yogurt, salads, and adequate fluid intake. Drinking sufficient water and avoiding overeating can help reduce the likelihood of stomach-related illnesses.

Healthcare professionals further emphasize the importance of personal hygiene and safe food preparation practices. Proper handwashing, clean cooking surfaces, and thorough cooking of meat can significantly lower the risk of foodborne infections.
