ISLAMABAD ( THE COW NEWS DIGITAL ) The government of Pakistan has announced a substantial increase in the price of kerosene, raising it by Rs 39.20 per liter. The new price of kerosene has been fixed at Rs 358.01 per liter, according to an official notification.

The Ministry of Energy clarified that the increase comes as part of adjustments in petroleum product pricing, while the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel will remain unchanged. Petrol will continue to carry a levy of Rs 105.37 per liter, and diesel will maintain a levy of Rs 55.24 per liter.

Officials emphasized that despite rising global oil prices, the federal government has decided not to increase petrol and diesel prices at this time. This policy will result in the government providing a subsidy of approximately Rs 23 billion to cover the price differential.

The subsidy will be disbursed to oil marketing companies through claims under the Price Differential Mechanism (PDM). This measure is intended to ensure stability in domestic fuel prices for consumers, despite fluctuations in the international market.

The Ministry of Energy noted that maintaining petrol and diesel prices at current levels is part of the government’s broader strategy to manage the economic impact of global oil price volatility.

Consumers, however, are expected to feel the immediate impact of the kerosene price hike, as it affects households and businesses relying on kerosene for cooking and heating purposes. Market analysts suggest that the increase could influence inflation rates and overall household expenditures.

The government has urged citizens to understand that the subsidy is aimed at protecting fuel affordability while balancing fiscal responsibilities. Authorities also stressed the importance of monitoring oil distribution to prevent any shortages or price manipulation at local fuel stations.

The decision comes amid ongoing global oil price fluctuations, which have forced several countries to adjust domestic fuel prices. Pakistan’s approach seeks to minimize the economic burden on the public while ensuring energy supplies remain consistent across the country.
