World ( The cow news digital ) A new development has emerged in the high-profile killing case of Naqeebullah Mehsud, as the son of the deceased has submitted an affidavit before the Sindh High Court during proceedings related to appeals against the acquittal of former senior police officer Rao Anwar and other accused individuals.

During the hearing, the court reviewed appeals challenging the acquittal of the former SSP and co-accused in the widely discussed case. According to court proceedings, Naqeebullah Mehsud’s son, Atif, submitted a sworn statement explaining the family’s position regarding the legal process.

In the affidavit, Atif stated that he was a minor at the time the appeals were initially filed. He further explained that his mother could not appear before the court due to prevailing social and cultural traditions. As a result, following the death of his grandfather, his uncle proceeded to file the appeals on behalf of the family.

After hearing preliminary arguments, the Sindh High Court adjourned further proceedings until after the summer vacations. No final observations were made during the hearing, and the appeals remain pending before the court.

The case has remained one of Pakistan’s most prominent police encounter cases since the killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud in 2018. The incident triggered nationwide outrage and raised serious questions regarding alleged extrajudicial killings and police accountability.

Earlier, an anti-terrorism court had acquitted former SSP Malir Rao Anwar and other accused individuals in the case, citing insufficient evidence. The verdict was later challenged through appeals filed before the Sindh High Court by members of the victim’s family.

The proceedings have continued to attract significant public and legal attention due to the sensitivity of the case and its broader implications for human rights and law enforcement practices in Pakistan.

At previous hearings, senior judicial figures, including the Chief Justice of Pakistan, had remarked on the seriousness of the matter, emphasizing that the state could not permit unlawful killings and stressing the importance of justice for the victim’s family.

Legal analysts believe the latest affidavit could play an important procedural role in clarifying the standing of the appellants in the ongoing appeals process.

The case is expected to resume after the court’s summer break, with further arguments likely to focus on the acquittal judgment and evidentiary matters.
