Pakistan Foils Drone Attack Attempt by Afghan Taliban

Islamabad(The COW News Digital)Pakistan’s security forces have successfully thwarted a drone attack attempt allegedly carried out by Afghan Taliban, according to a statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The incident occurred on March 13, 2026, when several rudimentary drones were reportedly launched with the intention of spreading fear and targeting areas inside Pakistan.

In its official statement, the military’s media wing said security forces detected the drones in time and neutralized them using both “soft kill” and “hard kill” countermeasures. These defensive techniques are commonly used to disable or destroy unmanned aerial systems before they reach their intended targets.

The ISPR stated that the drones were destroyed before they could strike any major installations or populated areas. However, debris from the intercepted drones reportedly fell in several locations, causing injuries to civilians.

According to authorities, two children were injured in Quetta after drone fragments fell in a residential area. Separate incidents were also reported in Kohat and Rawalpindi, where one civilian in each city sustained injuries due to falling debris.

Officials said the injured individuals received immediate medical attention and are currently being treated. Local administrations and rescue teams responded quickly to secure the affected areas and assess the situation.

The military described the attempted attack as an effort to create panic among the population. The ISPR statement further alleged that such actions reveal what it called the “terrorist mindset” behind the operation.

It added that while the Afghan Taliban often present themselves internationally as victims seeking global sympathy, they continue to support or enable proxy elements that target civilians through tactics such as drone attacks.

Security experts say the use of small drones in cross-border incidents reflects a growing trend in modern asymmetric warfare, where low-cost unmanned systems are increasingly used for reconnaissance, intimidation, or attacks.

Pakistan’s security forces remain on high alert along sensitive areas and urban centers to prevent similar incidents in the future. Authorities have also emphasized that any attempt to threaten civilian safety or national security will be met with a swift and decisive response.

The incident has further highlighted ongoing security concerns in the region and the importance of strengthening counter-drone defense systems to protect civilian populations and critical infrastructure.
