ISLAMABAD (The COW News Digital) The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the country’s 5G spectrum auction will take place on March 10, 2026, marking a significant step toward enhancing digital connectivity nationwide. The move is expected to improve internet speeds and overall mobile network performance across both urban and rural areas.
Chairman of the PTA, Hafeez-ur-Rehman, emphasized the critical role of 5G technology in achieving the vision of a “Digital Pakistan.” “Without better connectivity, the dream of a digital nation remains incomplete. The 5G auction will help resolve persistent internet issues and enable faster, more reliable communication for citizens and businesses,” he said.
PTA officials also highlighted that affordable 5G-enabled smartphones are now available in the market, with prices starting around PKR 40,000. Telecom companies have begun offering installment plans to make these devices more accessible to the general public, helping accelerate 5G adoption.

Director General of Licensing, Amir Shehzad, noted that more than 101 countries worldwide have already launched 5G services. In Pakistan, the introduction of new spectrum is expected to address connectivity challenges, particularly in rural areas where load-shedding and network congestion have affected internet performance.
“The new 5G spectrum will provide high-speed connectivity even in areas previously underserved,” Shehzad added. “This is a major milestone for Pakistan’s telecommunication sector, and it will also support economic growth, digital education, and e-commerce initiatives.”
Industry analysts say the auction could attract significant investment from both local and international telecom operators, who are eager to expand 5G coverage and offer innovative services. Enhanced connectivity is also expected to boost mobile banking, online education, telemedicine, and other digital services across Pakistan.
With the March 10 auction date now official, telecom companies are preparing bids and testing infrastructure to ensure smooth deployment once the spectrum is allocated. Consumers are eagerly anticipating faster internet speeds and improved mobile experiences, particularly in areas that have long faced network challenges.
The 5G rollout is expected to transform Pakistan’s digital landscape, paving the way for smarter cities, better mobile services, and broader access to advanced technology for millions of users nationwide.
