National ( The cow news digital ) A video showing renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel apparently refusing to shake hands with a child has sparked widespread debate on social media, drawing criticism from users across multiple platforms. Following the backlash, his son, Yousaf Jameel, has issued a detailed explanation regarding the incident and the circumstances surrounding it.

In a video statement shared on Instagram, Yousaf Jameel acknowledged the criticism and said people have every right to question public figures. However, he urged critics to also understand the full context before forming conclusions.

He stated that Maulana Tariq Jameel could have shaken hands with the child and that there was “no issue” in doing so, but explained that individuals constantly interacting with large crowds can sometimes experience exhaustion and mental fatigue. According to him, the scholar meets thousands of people regularly, often engaging in handshakes, greetings, photographs, and selfies during public appearances.

Yousaf Jameel emphasized that such situations should be viewed from a human perspective. He noted that even respected religious personalities can feel physically and emotionally drained after long schedules and continuous public interaction.

Clarifying the viral video, he explained that the incident took place during the holy month of Ramadan at a religious seminary during a Quran completion ceremony. He added that the child seen in the video was not a stranger from the public but a student associated with their institution who had already met the scholar multiple times.

According to Yousaf Jameel, the event occurred late at night after a full day of fasting, worship, exercise, and religious activities. He said Maulana Tariq Jameel had also led Taraweeh prayers before attending the gathering, despite normally resting early due to his demanding routine.

He appealed to social media users to show balance while criticizing public figures, especially elderly religious scholars. “Criticism is your right,” he said, “but understanding the complete situation is equally important.”

The explanation comes after several public figures and online commentators questioned the scholar’s behavior in the viral clip. Some defended him, citing fatigue and context, while others argued that children should always be treated warmly by influential personalities.

Despite the controversy, Yousaf Jameel said the family welcomes criticism and does not object to differing opinions, adding that Maulana Tariq Jameel has always remained open to public feedback throughout his career.
