In an interview with The New York Times, Trump said the framework of the proposed arrangement would ensure that Iran’s uranium enrichment activities remain limited and exclusively directed toward peaceful applications. He emphasized that such restrictions would be permanent in nature and designed to prevent any potential military use of nuclear materials.
When asked whether the enrichment threshold would align with the 3.67 percent limit set under the 2015 nuclear agreement during the Barack Obama administration, Trump avoided specifying an exact figure. Instead, he reiterated that Iran would only be allowed to pursue enrichment for civilian and peaceful energy needs.
Trump also warned that if Iran were to move against domestic protestors or engage in severe internal repression, it could face continued or expanded sanctions relief restrictions. However, according to diplomatic sources, this condition is not formally included in the draft framework currently under discussion.
In his remarks, Trump also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing him as a “difficult leader” who should show greater appreciation for U.S. support. The comments highlight ongoing tensions and policy disagreements even among long-standing allies in the Middle East.
The former president further argued that if Iran had successfully developed nuclear weapons, it would pose a direct and severe threat to Israel’s existence. He maintained that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capability remains a central objective of U.S. foreign policy.
