He expressed gratitude to Astoria, Queens, where he currently resides in a rented apartment paying $2,250 per month, for providing a supportive community, even though he will no longer live there.
The five-bedroom Gracie Mansion will continue to be maintained as the mayoral residence, with security arrangements strengthened to safeguard both the property and any future occupants. Mamdani’s decision has also reignited public fascination with the mansion, which has long been associated with tales of paranormal activity.
Former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, has previously shared experiences suggesting supernatural phenomena at the mansion, including self-opening doors and unexplained noises. Similarly, former Mayor Eric Adams reportedly mentioned paranormal occurrences at the property in 2022.
