Rawalpindi (The COW News Digital) Pakistan’s military leadership has said that any attempt to create unrest or a situation similar to the May 9 events will be dealt with through decisive action and according to the rule of law.
The statement was issued following the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The forum reviewed Pakistan’s prevailing security environment and reaffirmed the need for a high level of operational readiness.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the conference underscored the importance of internal stability and resolved that any attempt to cause agitation or create a May 9-like situation, regardless of the pretext, would be dealt with decisively and without discrimination under the law.
The commanders also reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence and targeted action against terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. The military leadership said the Taliban leadership would be responsible for the consequences of what Pakistan describes as support for terrorism from Afghan territory.
The forum appreciated continued intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations by law enforcement agencies. At the same time, the commanders emphasised that security operations should be supported by administrative and governance measures, including people-centred governance at the grassroots level, stronger engagement with the public and improved police capacity.
The conference also called for efforts to disrupt what it described as a terror-crime nexus and stressed the importance of strengthening policing capabilities as part of a broader counter-terrorism strategy. These measures were discussed in the context of the National Action Plan and Vision Azm-e-Istehkam.
Regional security developments were also discussed during the meeting. The forum welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as a contribution to the countries’ strategic and collective defence ties.
The commanders also expressed strong concern over Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, conveyed solidarity with the Kingdom and reaffirmed Pakistan’s stated commitment to the security and sanctity of Haramain Sharifain.
The conference reiterated Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute and its support for a resolution in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and what Pakistan describes as the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The forum also offered Fateha for personnel of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians who lost their lives in defence of the country. Participants paid tribute to their sacrifices.
In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir commended the formations for their operational preparedness and professionalism. He directed commanders to strengthen intelligence-based operations and improve combat capabilities through modern technology, training and multi-domain integration.
The military leadership reiterated that the armed forces remain prepared to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security amid the evolving domestic and regional security environment.
