KARACHI(The COW News Digital) Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal, delivered a stark assessment of Pakistan’s administrative structure and healthcare system, stating that decision-makers at the helm of power now realize the current system of governance has lost its effectiveness.
the federal minister emphasized that global healthcare paradigms have shifted decisively toward lifestyle medicine and preventative care. He asserted that Pakistan must urgently transition from reactive treatments toward disease prevention. Highlighting the limitations of state action, Kamal noted that government initiatives alone cannot repair the public health framework and urged private sector institutions and universities to step forward with strategic investments in preventive healthcare over clinical treatments.
Expanding on the healthcare crisis, the minister revealed alarming statistics, warning that rapid population growth has pushed the national health system to the verge of collapse. He disclosed that 11,000 mothers lose their lives annually during childbirth, while an estimated 1,300 infant deaths occur daily across the country. Kamal remarked that merely increasing the number of hospital facilities offers no sustainable solution unless proactive efforts are directed toward reducing overall patient volumes.
Addressing broader administrative reforms, the minister revealed that high-level dialogues are underway regarding restructuring governance frameworks and administrative units across the nation. He emphasized that those governing the country increasingly acknowledge that existing operational mechanisms are no longer functional or viable for national progress.
