ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital) The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased electricity prices by Rs2.36 per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism, imposing an additional financial burden on consumers across Pakistan.

The regulator has issued an official notification confirming the increase, which has been made in connection with the fuel cost adjustment for September 2026. The revised charges will be reflected in electricity bills issued in November 2026.

According to NEPRA, the actual fuel cost of electricity generation during September stood at Rs9.82 per unit, compared with the reference fuel cost of Rs7.45 per unit. The difference between the actual and reference costs has resulted in an additional charge of Rs2.36 per unit for consumers.

The adjustment will apply to customers of electricity distribution companies nationwide, including K-Electric consumers. However, lifeline electricity consumers, electric vehicle charging stations and customers operating under prepaid tariffs have been exempted from the increase.

The notification further states that consumers benefiting from the incremental consumption package will also be subject to the additional fuel price adjustment.

The extra charges will be calculated based on electricity units consumed during September 2026 and will appear separately in November’s electricity bills.

Meanwhile, the Power Division has clarified that the federal government has not revised electricity tariffs for industrial and agricultural consumers. Under the incremental consumption package, electricity rates for additional consumption by eligible industrial and agricultural users have been set at Rs22.98 per unit.

The Power Division said that 209,335 industrial and agricultural consumers benefited from the package until September 2026. Out of 518,316 eligible consumers, approximately 40 per cent availed themselves of the facility.

Between December 2025 and September 2026, the package facilitated an additional electricity consumption of 6,940 gigawatt-hours. The government provided financial relief amounting to Rs43.5 billion to industrial and agricultural consumers during this period.

Industrial consumers received relief ranging from Rs5 to Rs10 per unit on additional electricity consumption. The initiative also contributed to an average reduction of Rs1.50 to Rs2.50 per unit in overall electricity bills, according to the Power Division.

Officials stated that the proposed adjustment on additional consumption has been made in view of regional tensions and rising international fuel prices, which have increased electricity generation costs. The government aims to prevent further financial pressure on other categories of consumers.

The Power Division also highlighted that industrial electricity tariffs have already been reduced by Rs18.94 per unit, including taxes, compared with March 2024.

In October 2026, the average electricity tariff for industrial consumers stood at Rs34.40 per unit, including applicable taxes.

The latest fuel price adjustment is expected to affect household and commercial electricity bills, with consumers facing higher payments for electricity used during September.
