Islamabad (The COW News Digital) Pakistan’s military has reportedly carried out a retaliatory operation against Afghan Taliban positions in the Angoor Adda sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, destroying several checkpoints and military installations following what security sources described as unprovoked firing from the Afghan side.

According to security sources, Pakistani forces responded to the alleged border provocation by targeting multiple Afghan Taliban positions in areas adjoining South Waziristan and Parachinar. Footage of the operation has also been released, reportedly showing the destruction of several border installations.

The sources said Pakistani forces used heavy weapons during the operation, successfully striking several Taliban-controlled positions. The military action reportedly forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their posts and retreat from the targeted locations.

Security sources further claimed that several Afghan Taliban personnel were killed during the retaliatory strikes. However, no independently verified casualty figures were provided in the available report.

The operation reportedly targeted military installations and checkpoints located in strategically important areas along the border. These locations are considered significant because of their proximity to sensitive border crossings and security positions in Pakistan’s northwestern region.

Angoor Adda, located in South Waziristan, is an important border area connecting Pakistan with Afghanistan. The region has remained strategically sensitive because of cross-border security concerns, militant activity and tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

The latest reported military response highlights continuing security challenges along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, where incidents involving cross-border firing and military positions have periodically raised tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.

Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concerns about security threats originating from across the Afghan border, particularly attacks attributed to militant groups operating from Afghan territory. Afghan authorities have previously rejected several Pakistani allegations regarding the presence and activities of militant organisations inside Afghanistan.

Security sources reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces remained committed to defending the country’s territorial integrity and protecting civilians. They stressed that national security would remain a priority and that no compromise would be made on the country’s defence.

The release of operational footage appears intended to document the reported strikes against Afghan Taliban positions. However, the extent of the damage, the number of installations destroyed and the reported casualties could not be independently confirmed from the available information.

The developments come amid continuing tensions over border management and security cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Both countries share a lengthy and sensitive frontier, making coordination on security matters important for regional stability.

Any further escalation could have implications for border communities, trade routes and cross-border movement. The situation is therefore likely to remain a significant security concern for authorities on both sides of the frontier.
