RAWALPINDI(The COW News Digital ) Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye will jointly determine their response if any one of the three countries comes under attack, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said.
Speaking in an interview with an Arab television channel, the DG ISPR said the three countries would assess the circumstances of any attack and, through mutual consultation, decide on an appropriate course of action.
He said the practical mechanism for implementing the defence commitments under the Makkah agreement would not be made public because details involving military operations and security arrangements are sensitive.
According to Chaudhry, any response to an attack on a member of the agreement would be decided collectively by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The three countries would review the situation before agreeing on further measures.
The agreement brings the three countries together under a framework focused on defence cooperation and strengthening their collective defence capabilities. Chaudhry described the arrangement as defensive in nature, saying it was intended to contribute to regional peace and stability rather than target another country or alliance.
Addressing questions about Pakistan’s military capabilities, the DG ISPR said India’s growing defence expenditure was aimed at expanding its military strength, while Pakistan’s defence capabilities were primarily intended to protect the country.
He said Pakistan was not seeking to participate in an arms race and had no aggressive intentions toward any country. However, he maintained that Pakistan had the capability to defend itself effectively and respond to aggression.
On questions concerning political and military objectives, Chaudhry said national political objectives were determined by the country’s political leadership. He added that the military and the state did not pursue separate national objectives, with broader national goals falling within the political leadership’s domain.
Discussing Afghanistan, he referred to United Nations reports concerning the presence of numerous militant organisations in the country. He said Pakistan’s position remained that Afghan territory should not be used for terrorist activities against Pakistan.
Chaudhry also alleged that elements operating under the Taliban government were involved in training militants responsible for attacks in Pakistan. Islamabad’s principal demand, he said, was that Afghan soil should not be used for terrorism against Pakistan.
He further clarified that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye would continue maintaining their independent relations with other countries. The Makkah defence arrangement, he said, should be viewed as a mechanism for cooperation rather than a replacement for the three countries’ existing international partnerships.
