Islamabad (The COW News Digital): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has questioned the performance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) governments during their 13 years in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, demanding answers about development projects, healthcare facilities and counterterrorism measures.
Addressing a parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the prime minister asked what the provincial governments had achieved with the Rs800 billion received under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
Shehbaz Sharif questioned how many Safe City projects had been established in the province using these funds and what steps had been taken to strengthen the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
He also asked how many hospitals, universities and dams had been constructed in accordance with the commitments made by successive PTI governments.
The prime minister criticised the provincial government’s performance, saying that instead of prioritising public service over the past 13 years, it had focused on making grand claims, organising long marches and staging sit-ins.
He further accused the PTI leadership of spreading what he described as a negative political narrative rather than concentrating on public welfare and development.
Referring to the imposition of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shehbaz Sharif defended the decision, saying that the circumstances had made timely action necessary.
He maintained that if the decision had been delayed, the province could have suffered further damage.
According to the prime minister, the decision was taken to protect the people, the country, the economy and society from further deterioration.
His remarks come amid growing political tensions between the federal government and PTI over the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly following the imposition of Governor’s Rule.
The development has intensified political debate over the provincial government’s performance, security challenges and the allocation of financial resources under the NFC Award.
Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his commitment to continuing efforts for the development and prosperity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the federal government would remain committed to improving the province’s conditions and ensuring better facilities for its people.
The prime minister’s questions have once again brought PTI’s long tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under scrutiny, particularly regarding public infrastructure, institutional development, healthcare, education and security.
