National ( The cow news digital ) In a significant political development in Gilgit-Baltistan, senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader Amjad Hussain Advocate has been elected unopposed as the new Chief Minister of the region, marking a smooth transition of leadership within the assembly.

The announcement was made during a formal session of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, chaired by Speaker Imran Nadim. Officials confirmed that no other candidate submitted nomination papers for the chief ministerial position, paving the way for an uncontested election. All members present in the house extended their support to Amjad Hussain Advocate, reflecting a rare moment of political consensus in the regional legislature.

Amjad Hussain Advocate, who represents constituency GBA-1 Gilgit, has previously served in key political and administrative roles. He currently holds the position of provincial president of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Gilgit-Baltistan. His political career also includes membership in the Gilgit-Baltistan Council from 2010 to 2015, and electoral victories from two constituencies in the 2020 elections, strengthening his influence in regional politics.

With this development, Amjad Hussain becomes the fifth Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. His election comes at a time when the province’s political landscape has seen increasing cooperation among major political forces.

Earlier, the assembly had already witnessed similar unopposed selections. Imran Nadim was elected unopposed as Speaker of the Assembly, while Kifayat-ur-Rehman Advocate of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was chosen unopposed as Deputy Speaker. These developments highlight a rare phase of cross-party alignment within the legislative framework.

Meanwhile, following a request from opposition members, Speaker Imran Nadim officially declared Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman of PML-N as the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly, further structuring the parliamentary balance in the region.

The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected Chief Minister is expected to be announced soon, according to official sources. Political observers believe that the unopposed election may help ensure smoother governance and greater legislative cooperation in the coming months.

The situation reflects a broader trend of political consolidation in Gilgit-Baltistan, where coalition-building and consensus politics are increasingly shaping governance outcomes.

As the new administration prepares to take charge, expectations remain high for improved governance, development initiatives, and stability across the region.
