Islamabad (The COW News Digital) An opposition delegation met with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday to discuss key parliamentary matters, including the controversy surrounding PTI Chairman Imran Khan and restrictions on meetings with his family members.
During the meeting, Barrister Gohar, PTI’s senior leader, raised concerns about the ongoing barriers preventing party leaders and close family members from meeting the former Prime Minister. The discussion highlighted tensions between the government and PTI over access and engagement with party leadership.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that he has consistently advocated for dialogue, stating that negotiations are essential for resolving parliamentary and political issues. “At every opportunity, I have encouraged discussions because it is through negotiations that problems can be effectively addressed,” he remarked.

The opposition has recently formed a joint committee of Senators and National Assembly members to coordinate their parliamentary strategy. This committee, representing multiple opposition parties, has vowed to take a unified approach in advocating for legislative and procedural matters within Parliament.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser told the media that the delegation communicated a clear message to the Speaker regarding the appointment of the Opposition Leader, stressing that this process must be completed without further delay. He also noted that the committee addressed the obstruction of meetings with Imran Khan, underscoring the need for fair access to party leaders for consultations.
Qaiser further warned that if the current approach persisted, opposition parties would consider halting parliamentary proceedings, signaling an escalation in political friction. He added that the joint opposition committee will implement a coordinated strategy inside Parliament to ensure their demands are addressed effectively.
The meeting comes amid growing political tensions in Pakistan, with opposition parties increasingly vocal about procedural delays and perceived restrictions on engagement with PTI leadership. Analysts suggest that the formation of a joint committee reflects the opposition’s commitment to presenting a united front on critical parliamentary matters and safeguarding democratic processes.
As the situation unfolds, the dialogue between opposition leaders and the Speaker will likely play a crucial role in determining the functional dynamics of Pakistan’s Parliament, as well as the political environment surrounding key leadership appointments.
