Pakistan, Egypt Agree to Expand Trade and Defense Ties

Islamabad(The COW News Digital)Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to significantly expand cooperation in trade, defense, education, and cultural exchange during the official visit of Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty. The visit took place on November 29–30 at the invitation of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides held a one-on-one meeting followed by delegation-level talks at the Foreign Office. The discussions reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including political, economic, commercial, security, and academic cooperation. Progress on regional issues, particularly the worsening situation in Palestine, was also a major focus.

Both countries agreed to enhance economic engagement and facilitate business mobility. Under the new arrangement, 250 Pakistani business houses will be identified in the first phase and 500 in the second phase for fast-track visa facilitation to Egypt. Officials also finalized plans for the Pakistan–Egypt Business Forum, which will convene during the next session of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in the second quarter of 2026. The meeting will be co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both nations.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen institutional mechanisms and maintain high-level exchanges. Senior-level government dialogues are planned for the first quarter of 2026 to accelerate cooperation in trade, investment, health, education, and culture. Egypt also offered support for Pakistan’s national Hepatitis C elimination program, a key public health priority.

In a significant announcement, Dr. Abdelatty said Egypt would double the number of scholarships for Pakistani students at Al-Azhar University, one of the region’s most prestigious academic institutions.

During his visit, the Egyptian foreign minister also met President Asif Ali Zardari. The president highlighted the historic and brotherly ties between the two nations and expressed a desire to deepen collaboration in all sectors. The meeting also included discussions on regional stability and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Dr. Abdelatty later visited General Headquarters (GHQ) and held talks with Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Both sides discussed defense cooperation, military training exchanges, security challenges, and the shared commitment to regional peace.

The visit marked a renewed push to elevate Pakistan–Egypt relations through structured dialogue, enhanced economic partnerships, and greater coordination on regional issues.
