PESHAWAR — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has clarified that the upcoming long march organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is primarily aimed at securing access to the incarcerated PTI founder, rather than demanding an immediate release.
In an exclusive interview with Geo News program Naya Pakistan, Afridi announced that he will personally lead the long march scheduled for September 27. Emphasizing the gravity and persistence of the upcoming protest, he stated that it will not be a one-day event and that demonstrators will not simply return to Islamabad and disperse without achieving their objective.
Afridi revealed that the decision to launch the long march was finalized following comprehensive consultations with leaders from both PTI and the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aaeen-e-Pakistan, noting that Aleema Khan will also actively participate in the movement.
Addressing the core objective of the march, the Chief Minister reiterated that the push is focused on gaining direct access to the PTI founder, while his formal release will follow due legal and constitutional processes. When questioned about scheduling the long march roughly a month and a half in advance, Afridi explained that the September 27 date was chosen to ensure favorable weather conditions and allow adequate preparation time for supporters.
