ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has officially scheduled a hearing for September 16, 2026, to address a contempt of court petition concerning the medical evaluation and immediate transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to an external hospital facility.

According to formal details released by the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office, the petition—originally filed by Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan—has been fixed for hearing before Bench Number Five. As per the official judicial cause list, the three-member bench will be presided over by Justice Shahid Waheed, alongside Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.

The Registrar’s Office clarified that a total of 94 similar petitions falling under the same legal classification were already pending before the apex court prior to this submission. Uzma Khan’s contempt plea, being the most recent filing within this category, has now been clubbed alongside the ongoing list for systematic judicial review.

The legal action stems from allegations that prison authorities failed to comply with prior judicial directions regarding the provision of specialized medical examination and adequate healthcare facilities for the incarcerated former Prime Minister. The petitioner asserts that despite repeated requests and medical advisories highlighting the necessity of proper clinical evaluation, prison administrators delayed implementing court orders, thereby committing willful contempt of court.

The upcoming hearing comes amid persistent calls from Imran Khan’s legal representatives and party leadership demanding transparent medical access and specialized care outside the jail premises. Legal experts note that the Supreme Court’s decision to form a dedicated three-member bench underlines the procedural significance of resolving long-standing contempt applications concerning prisoners’ basic constitutional rights and administrative compliance.

With the date formally set on the judicial roster, all eyes remain on the Supreme Court proceedings on September 16, where the bench is expected to examine the administrative reports submitted by jail authorities and determine whether contempt proceedings should be formally initiated against the concerned officials.
