PML-N Lacks Clear National Political Narrative: Saleem Safi

3 Min Read

National ( The cow news digital ) Senior journalist Saleem Safi has strongly criticized the political strategy and leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stating that the party currently lacks a clear and effective narrative to connect with the public.

In his recent remarks, Safi argued that one of the major challenges for the ruling party is its apparent detachment from active political engagement. He said that PML-N leadership appears increasingly distant from day-to-day political affairs, which is affecting the party’s overall momentum and public outreach.

Referring to party leader Nawaz Sharif, Safi noted that he has remained largely confined to his residence in recent months and is not playing an active role in political mobilization. According to him, this absence of direct leadership involvement has contributed to a slowdown in the party’s political activities and weakened its public messaging.

Safi further claimed that the PML-N is gradually becoming a Punjab-centric political force, with limited engagement in other provinces. He stated that the party’s declining outreach beyond Punjab is a matter of concern for its national identity and long-term political relevance.

Highlighting structural issues within the party, the journalist also raised questions about the composition of the federal cabinet. He pointed out that approximately 95 percent of cabinet members reportedly belong to Central Punjab, while representation from other provinces remains minimal or nearly absent.

According to Safi, this imbalance in representation reflects a broader political challenge for the party, particularly at a time when national cohesion and inclusive governance are considered essential for political stability.

Political analysts say such criticism adds to the ongoing debate about PML-N’s organizational direction and its ability to maintain a strong presence across all provinces. They argue that effective national parties in Pakistan typically rely on balanced provincial representation and consistent political engagement at the grassroots level.

The remarks have sparked discussion in political and media circles regarding the future strategy of PML-N and whether the party needs to recalibrate its approach to regain broader national appeal.

So far, there has been no official response from the PML-N leadership regarding these comments.
