Islamabad(The COW News Digital)-Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Monday urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to focus on governance and security challenges, saying the province’s leadership must act responsibly in the face of rising terrorism.

Speaking to journalists, he noted that KP is a large and sensitive province where the chief minister must “fulfill his responsibilities” instead of engaging in political point scoring.

Talal Chaudhry said terrorism remained a major national concern and stressed that the provincial government should take concrete steps rather than staging political stunts. He added that the federal government is a political government and would “never want Governor’s rule imposed” in any province.

Criticizing Afridi’s conduct, Chaudhry said that instead of attending National Security and Counter-Terrorism meetings, “he chooses to score points,” which undermines collective efforts against militancy. He also cautioned that the chief minister cannot use his office to influence jail protocols.

“By becoming the Chief Minister of KP, it cannot be that you open the doors of every jail and meet any prisoner you want,” he said, emphasizing that all meetings inside prisons must be arranged strictly by jail authorities under the jail manual.

Talal Chaudhry warned that deliberately creating law and order problems around jails or blocking roads could endanger other prisoners as well. He reaffirmed that jail authorities and courts are responsible for regulating such matters and that “no one in office can dictate” beyond what the law permits.
