Islamabad (The COW News Digital) Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar has issued a strong statement emphasizing that the Afghan Taliban must ensure their territory is not used for terrorism or hostile activities against Pakistan.

Speaking to Geo News in an exclusive interview, Tarar reacted to the joint communiqué issued after recent Pakistan–Afghanistan talks, underscoring that Islamabad will now have a new forum to present credible evidence of cross-border terrorism.

Tarar revealed that the talks were revived with the assistance of Qatar and Türkiye, describing both as “trusted friends who view Pakistan with respect and understanding.” He added that the renewed diplomatic engagement aims to bring stability and accountability to the region.

“The Afghan Taliban had to agree that terrorist activities must cease,” Tarar stated firmly. “We hope that from now on, such attacks will stop. Any side violating the ceasefire will face consequences.”

The information minister further disclosed that the ceasefire agreement includes the Taliban’s commitment to take action against ‘Khawarij’ elements, a term often used to describe groups involved in extremist violence operating independently within Afghanistan.

“Afghan authorities must guarantee that their land will never again be used for any operation or militant activity against Pakistan,” Tarar said, adding that Islamabad has been patient but expects tangible progress this time.

Responding to questions about the Pakistan-Afghanistan border reopening, Tarar clarified that a decision will be made later, depending on the implementation of the latest security assurances. He reiterated that Pakistan seeks peaceful coexistence and regional cooperation, not confrontation.

Diplomatic observers see the latest talks as a critical turning point following months of escalating tensions and border closures between the two neighboring states. Analysts believe the new mechanism for evidence-sharing could strengthen Pakistan’s position in holding the Afghan authorities accountable for militant activity emanating from their territory.

Tarar’s comments also come amid growing domestic pressure on the government to respond firmly to terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which Pakistani officials claim were launched from across the Afghan border.

As Islamabad awaits visible action from Kabul, both sides face mounting international scrutiny to ensure the ceasefire and counterterrorism commitments are honored in good faith.
