WASHINGTON ( The COW News Digital) U.S. President Donald Trump has cautioned Israel to act with restraint regarding its actions toward Qatar, calling the Gulf nation one of Washington’s closest and most valued allies.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump praised Qatar as a “great ally” and lauded the Emir of Qatar as a “remarkable leader.” He emphasized that Qatar plays a vital role in U.S. interests in the region, hosting major American military installations and serving as a crucial partner in security and counterterrorism efforts.

When asked about the recent Israeli strikes in Doha targeting Hamas-linked figures, Trump offered a rare public warning to Israel. “Israel must be careful. They need to take action against Hamas, yes — but Qatar is a very important ally of ours, and that cannot be ignored,” he said.

Trump’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East after Israeli strikes reportedly targeted Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital. Qatar has condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of its sovereignty, and has convened a joint summit of Arab and Islamic nations to decide on a unified response.

Shifting to energy and global trade, President Trump also criticized European nations for continuing to purchase large quantities of oil from Russia, undermining Western sanctions. “Europe must do better. They are buying a huge amount of oil from Russia while we are taking a tough stance. That has to change,” Trump asserted.

He revealed that the U.S. is considering additional sanctions against Moscow to further restrict its energy revenues, which Washington says are being used to fund its military campaigns. Trump also mentioned that India is facing heavy tariffs on its oil purchases from Russia, signaling that Washington is applying pressure globally to reduce Moscow’s energy influence.

In a significant policy note, Trump hinted at progress in trade negotiations with China, suggesting that “major breakthroughs” could be announced soon. Analysts believe this could signal a shift toward easing trade tensions ahead of the next economic summit.

Trump’s statements underscore the complex web of alliances and rivalries that the U.S. must navigate in the Middle East while simultaneously managing its standoff with Russia and trade disputes with major powers. His remarks are expected to generate strong reactions both in Tel Aviv and Doha, as well as in European capitals.
