Venezuela Vows to Resist US Push for New War

Caracas( The COW News Digital) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has strongly condemned what he described as the United States’ attempt to provoke a new regional conflict, vowing that his country “will not allow Washington’s desire for war to succeed.”

Maduro’s remarks came in response to the U.S. decision to deploy an aircraft carrier to the Caribbean, a move that has drawn sharp criticism from Latin American leaders. “The United States wants to ignite a new war, but Venezuela will not let it happen,” Maduro said in a televised statement from Caracas. “Our people want peace, stability, and respect for sovereignty.”

The Venezuelan leader accused Washington of “militarizing the Caribbean” and using the pretext of “regional security” to intimidate independent nations. He called the deployment an act of aggression intended to destabilize progressive governments in Latin America.

“The Caribbean is not a playground for U.S. warships,” Maduro declared. “We will defend our sovereignty through diplomacy and unity with our Latin American brothers.”

The development follows a period of heightened tension between the United States and several South American nations, particularly Colombia and Venezuela. Earlier this week, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sweeping sanctions on Colombian President Gustavo Petro, his family, and senior officials — accusing them of links to narcotics operations.

Petro, in a defiant response, vowed not to bow to U.S. pressure, saying, “I will not take a single step back and will never kneel.” Maduro echoed Petro’s sentiments, describing the sanctions as “imperialist coercion” and expressing solidarity with Colombia’s government.

Regional analysts warn that U.S. actions risk reigniting Cold War–style divisions across Latin America. “Washington’s aggressive posture toward left-leaning governments is pushing the region toward greater polarization,” said a political analyst in Caracas.

The White House has defended the naval deployment as part of its broader commitment to “ensure freedom of navigation” in international waters. However, critics argue that the move coincides with growing U.S. efforts to counter Chinese and Russian influence in Latin America — a region long considered within America’s strategic orbit.

Maduro concluded his statement by urging dialogue and regional unity. “Venezuela will stand firm for peace,” he said. “We will not let external powers drag Latin America into another era of conflict.”
