Peshawar (The COW News Digital) Security forces are conducting a clearance operation against three militants who attacked Wana Cadet College, officials confirmed. All cadets remain safe, and the threat is contained, authorities said.
According to security sources, the attackers were linked to Afghanistan and were reportedly receiving instructions via phone during the assault. After the initial attack, they took refuge in a building located far from the cadets’ residential area.
The attack began when the militants rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the college’s main gate. The blast destroyed the gate and caused damage to nearby buildings. Quick response by the Pakistan Army resulted in the killing of two militants on site. The remaining attacker is confined to a specific building as security forces continue a decisive clearance operation.
At the time of the attack, approximately 650 people, including 525 cadets, were present on the campus. Security teams have safely evacuated 115 individuals so far, and operations are ongoing to remove the remaining 535 people from the premises in a controlled manner.
Security officials assured that the building where the militants are hiding is located at a considerable distance from cadet residences, ensuring no immediate danger to students. Forces have surrounded the area and are taking every precaution to minimize risk during the operation.
Authorities have requested parents to remain calm, confirming that all cadets are safe. “The operation will continue until the last militant is neutralized,” a security source said.
This incident follows heightened concerns about cross-border militancy. Officials indicated that the attackers were linked to Afghan extremist networks and were acting under external guidance. Swift military intervention prevented a potentially devastating outcome, highlighting the readiness of Pakistan’s security apparatus in responding to terrorist threats.
As the operation continues, authorities remain vigilant and have reiterated that the safety of cadets is the top priority. Updates are expected once the remaining militant is neutralized and the college is fully secured.
