Karachi has shown promising signs in the field of education, with recent reports indicating that the city is performing relatively well compared to many other districts across Pakistan. According to the latest District Education Performance Index (DEPIx), educational performance is measured on a scale of 0 to 100, with higher scores reflecting better access to schooling, learning outcomes, infrastructure, and management. Scores above the national average of around 53 are generally viewed as positive indicators of stronger education systems.

Data from independent rankings show that Karachi’s education score hovers near 68–70 points, placing it ahead of many other districts in the country. This level suggests that the city provides comparatively better education facilities and opportunities than average districts, though it still lags behind the very top performers.

Education officials say that a score above 65 is widely considered a good result, signaling improvements in school enrolment, teacher availability, and literacy support. Achieving this benchmark draws attention to Karachi’s relatively robust private school network and ongoing efforts to strengthen public schooling.

However, experts caution that persistent gaps in infrastructure and equitable access must be addressed to sustain and further raise these scores in the coming years.
