Neither Iranian nor US authorities have officially linked themselves to the latest attack on the Chinese vessel, and independent verification of the incident remains limited.
Maritime analysts warn that repeated incidents in the region could further disrupt global trade routes and increase insurance and security costs for shipping companies operating in the Gulf.
