Bejing( The COW News Digital)China has welcomed the Gaza peace initiative while reiterating its firm stance that governance in Palestine should rest solely with the Palestinian people. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that the international community must respect this principle when addressing the future of Gaza and the broader region.
Speaking to reporters, Wang Yi said that any decisions regarding Gaza’s future must align with the will of the Palestinian people and should not contradict their wishes. He stressed that efforts to restore peace in the Middle East and safeguard human lives are commendable and should continue under international cooperation.
Wang Yi described the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as a “stain on the 21st century” and called for the world to awaken to the moral responsibility of protecting civilians and ensuring their rights. He urged the global community to uphold the principle that governance in Gaza should remain in the hands of its people, warning against external interference that disregards local authority or aspirations.
China’s comments come in the wake of the historic Gaza ceasefire agreement signed in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, earlier today. The signing ceremony brought together the Emir of Qatar, U.S. President Donald Trump, and the Egyptian President, marking a milestone in efforts to end years of conflict and violence in the region.
As part of the ceasefire agreement, 20 Israeli hostages were released by Hamas, while Israel simultaneously freed a number of Palestinian prisoners. The agreement also outlines steps for reconstruction, humanitarian aid, and political stabilization in Gaza, aiming to provide a sustainable framework for peace and recovery.
China’s stance highlights the importance of ensuring that all measures taken in Gaza align with international principles and respect the sovereignty of its residents. Wang Yi emphasized that international actors should act in support of the Palestinian people rather than imposing solutions that overlook their interests.
Analysts note that China’s position aligns with long-standing diplomatic efforts advocating Palestinian self-determination and reflects growing international recognition of the need for locally driven governance in conflict-affected regions.
As Gaza begins a new chapter under the ceasefire, global observers will closely monitor whether international actors respect the principle of Palestinian-led governance while facilitating humanitarian assistance and reconstruction.
