Iran(The COW News Digital)Iran has asserted its full capability to counter any U.S. military threat, including the potential sinking of aircraft carriers and targeting of American bases in the region, according to Major General Amir Hayat Moqaddam, a member of Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and former commander of the Revolutionary Guards.

In a recent interview, Moqaddam emphasized that Iran’s defensive posture is designed to deliver decisive responses in the event of aggression. “It is not far-fetched that a U.S. warship could be sunk or its personnel captured during a conflict,” he said. “We have the capacity to inflict damage on all American forces, from soldiers to generals, and even high-value targets like the residence of former President Donald Trump could be vulnerable.”
However, the general stressed that Iran does not seek war. “Our military doctrine is defensive; we respond decisively if attacked,” Moqaddam said. He claimed that U.S. forces lack effective defense against Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities, noting that American deterrence showed signs of weakness during a recent 12-day regional conflict.
Moqaddam further highlighted Tehran’s cautious approach to diplomacy. While Iran values negotiations, he expressed skepticism about Washington’s reliability in honoring future agreements. “The U.S. cannot be fully trusted to adhere to commitments, which is why strengthening our defensive preparedness remains a top priority,” he said.
The Iranian official also criticized the deployment of U.S. military assets, including aircraft carriers, in the region, describing it as a psychological and political tactic aimed at intimidation. “These deployments cannot prevent Iran from defending its national interests,” Moqaddam stated.
Analysts suggest that such statements are part of Tehran’s strategic messaging to reinforce deterrence while signaling readiness to both domestic and international audiences. The remarks come amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran over regional security, sanctions, and military presence in the Gulf.
Moqaddam concluded by emphasizing that Iran’s primary goal is to maintain robust defense capabilities and ensure preparedness against any potential threats, while continuing to pursue diplomatic avenues whenever feasible.
