World ( The cow news digital ) Turkey is planning to significantly expand its trade volume with Iraq, aiming to increase annual bilateral trade to $30 billion, according to diplomatic and media reports.
Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Anıl Bora Inan stated that Ankara is strengthening its position as one of Baghdad’s key economic partners in the region. He made the remarks in an interview with the Iraqi state newspaper Al-Sabah, highlighting the growing economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
According to the ambassador, Turkey’s total exports surpassed $12.3 billion in 2025, and Ankara now seeks to at least double its trade volume with Iraq in the coming years. He emphasized that Iraq remains one of the most important trading partners in the region for Turkey.
He further noted that Turkey maintains a principle-based approach in its relations with Iraq, focusing on mutual economic benefit and long-term cooperation. Despite regional challenges, Ankara continues to play a supportive role in strengthening Iraq’s economy through trade and investment.
In recent years, economic ties between Turkey and Iraq have deepened, even as political tensions persist over issues such as water resource sharing and Turkey’s military presence in northern Iraq. Nevertheless, both countries have continued to expand cooperation in trade and infrastructure development.
Turkey exports a wide range of goods to Iraq, including food products, construction materials, machinery, textiles, and household items. Turkish companies also maintain a strong presence in Iraq’s construction and infrastructure sectors, particularly in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
Trade between Turkey and the Kurdistan Region alone exceeds $5 billion annually, with Erbil serving as a key hub for Turkish businesses operating in the area.
Analysts say the proposed $30 billion trade target reflects Ankara’s broader regional economic strategy and its efforts to deepen commercial integration with neighboring markets.
If achieved, the expanded trade volume would mark a major milestone in Turkey-Iraq economic relations and further strengthen their long-term partnership.
